Blue the Llama
He’s a Llama of a different color!

blue12.jpg

Blue is a Leopard Llama, he is white with lots of brown spots. He was born on January 23, 2007. Why do we call him Blue? Blue is a registered Llama with the International Llama registry and his registered name is SSL Pasquali’s Blue Grotto. But that’s a mouth-full so here at Gatorland we just call him Blue!

Llamas are from South America and are part of the Camelidae family which also includes other animals such as the Camel, Alpaca, and Guanaco. Llamas have been domesticated since around 4,000 B.C., and have a natural guard behavior. Therefore they have been used throughout history to guard flocks of sheep and other livestock.

As one of our largest animals in the petting zoo, Blue gets along great with all of our goats, sheep and Miniature Zebu. Now we can all sleep soundly at night knowing that Blue is protecting our herd!
