Just two weeks until the start of our 2016 photography season. I have been curious all “winter” about how the birds would react to our unusually warm weather. After being out in the rookery this morning it looks like the birds are right on schedule. Great Egrets are displaying and pairing up. I saw about 6 nests that had birds lying down so they probably have eggs already. No one stood up so I could see though; it was a bit windy outside. Many of the adults have beautiful green faces and they all had fresh breeding plumage. There were plenty of other species hanging around however the Great Egrets are the only species nesting this early. I saw White Ibis (below), Snowy Egret, Anhinga, Wood Stork, Great Blue Heron, Common Gallinule, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, American Robin, Red-shouldered Hawk, Black Vulture, Double-crested Cormorant and Boat-tailed Grackle. There will be more species to see as the season goes on of course. I snapped some great pictures this morning. I’ll try to post some more of them soon. See you soon!
